Pateromichelakis Mavro Red Dry Wine (Mavrotragano)

Description

Experience the untamed and sophisticated side of the Cretan vineyard with Mavro, a flagship red wine from the family-run Pateromichelakis Winery. Located in the fertile valley of Lousakies in Kissamos, Chania, the Pateromichelakis family has dedicated decades to organic viticulture, producing wines that are a true reflection of the island’s unique microclimate.
The Pateromichelakis Mavro is a single-variety expression of Mavrotragano, a rare, dark-skinned grape that was once near extinction. While natively Cycladic, this “enigmatic” variety has adapted perfectly to the sandy clay-loam soils and northeast-facing slopes of western Crete. The grapes are grown organically at an altitude of 300 meters, benefitting from both the Aegean sun and cooling sea breezes.
This “big” red wine is crafted using classic red winemaking techniques and aged in oak barrels for 10 to 12 months. The result is a wine that packs a punch while maintaining a delicate, refined balance.
